Chinese Doll
The dolls are about feminism in China. After the second wave feminist movement in the western country, feminism has much further development and the society continued criticizing the inequality in woman’s right. However, Chinese feminism is still at a low level and the history of feminism in China is full of tears and blood. Chinese girls are facing the problems of gender stereotype, discrimination in work, sexual harassment, slut-shaming, traditional value of son and daughter, man dominated body image and so on. Due to these barriers and the current situation of the Chinese woman, I want to make a series of dolls named new “Chinese dolls” to break the stereotype of the Chinese woman and appeal the attention to Chinese feminism. I’d like to use different material and shapes to sculpture dolls with different stories. Each story represents a struggle in Chinese feminism.
